I spent a year living in Russia and hope to get back there. I enjoy reading and writing about what I read.

Can we as a film-going society please move past our 3-D obsession? After seeing Fright Night, the first and last movie I’ll ever see in 3-D, I’m amazed that this style is still popular. Didn’t we learn our lesson in the 80s? 3-D doesn’t add anything to the film and in fact, takes away a lot of enjoyment. Every gratuitous 3-D moment shouts: THIS IS A MOVIE. LOOK YOU’RE AT A MOVIE. KEEP WATCHING THE MOVIE. It’s dumb and gimmicky and doesn’t even work in a gimmicky movie like Fright Night, let alone a more ‘serious’ film.

Hopefully we can all look back on this time in movie history in the same way that people now look at the cinematic failure that was Jaws 3-D: with disdain and a lot of head-shaking.

James Cameron, this is all your fault.
